About The Position

This is a position-specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year. The Building Services Worker is the full performance level of work in providing maintenance, housekeeping, and general services for State buildings. Employees in this classification do not supervise other positions and receive general supervision from a Building Services Supervisor or other housekeeping supervisory position. Employees may be subject to call-in on a 24-hour basis and may be assigned to day, evening, night, or rotating shifts, which may include weekends and holidays based on staffing needs. Employees may be exposed to noisy, dirty, and uncomfortable conditions, such as extreme heat and cold temperatures. The work may require the use of protective equipment such as gloves, masks, respirators, goggles, back braces, and safety shoes when performing maintenance duties. Employees may be required to work in confined spaces and at various heights and move heavy objects. The Building Services Worker is differentiated from the Building Services Supervisor in that the Building Services Worker performs the full range of duties and responsibilities under general supervision, while the Building Services Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for Building Services Workers.

No experience required.
Possession of a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland may be required if assigned duties require the operation of a motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

Providing maintenance, housekeeping, and general services for full-service cabins, bath houses, a lake house, day use restrooms, park offices, and maintenance shop restrooms.
Cleaning state buildings and restrooms.
Collecting trash and recyclable items.
Replacing supplies.
Performing minor repairs to furniture.
