About The Position

The Building Service Worker at UIC Law School is responsible for providing custodial services to the buildings that comprise the law school. These services include routine cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting interior and exterior spaces, as well as minor maintenance. The Building Service Worker ensures that the environment is clean and orderly for the students, faculty, staff, and guests, moves equipment and furniture for events, uses various tools, performs small repairs and or preventative maintenance and logs completion of all assigned work. Assists with and reports larger maintenance issues to Asst. Superintendent of Building Maintenance or Superintendent of Building Maintenance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness on assigned floors; wipe and sanitize hard surfaces in classrooms, offices, kitchens, conference rooms, and common areas.
  • Wipe/sanitize restroom fixtures, including toilets, sinks, and paper dispensers.
  • Cleans windows.
  • Sweep/mop/vacuum floors in classrooms, offices, kitchens and conference rooms; Sweep and mop elevator flooring and clean tracks as necessary; vacuum and shampoo lobby mats; sweep and mop stairwells; buff and wax floors.
  • Operates cleaning equipment, small power tools, and uses hand tools to assemble, disassemble furniture and mechanical equipment in order to perform preventative or corrective(repair) maintenance.
  • Empty trash receptacles in corridors and restrooms; dispose of trash in dumpster; pick-up any trash/litter from assigned floors.
  • Collect and appropriately dispose of recycling.
  • Move furniture and supplies; set-up meeting, classroom, and event space as directed.
  • Continuously monitor all building and site conditions, including but not limited to water leaks, electrical outages, broken equipment, damaged structures, vandalism, lighting, HVAC and other mechanical equipment.
  • Immediately notify Supervisor when emergency conditions arise.
  • Log and report time to appropriate system or personnel work performed, items that need repair, diminishing supplies, and other relevant accomplishments and needs.
  • Change overhead light bulbs, change filters, replace belts and similar mechanical maintenance, locks/unlocks doors as needed.
  • Sweep/shovel snow from doors and walkways, spread salt or ice melts.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
