About The Position

The Building Service Worker, also known as a Janitor, is responsible for performing custodial and routine building maintenance duties at Lakes Region Community College. This role reports to the Plant Maintenance Engineer and involves maintaining cleanliness, security, and functionality of college and student housing buildings.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in cleaning and maintenance of institutional or public buildings.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to perform medium work involving strenuous activities, bending, lifting, and manual dexterity.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in building maintenance or a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, basic carpentry, and landscaping techniques is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, occupational hazards, safety precautions, and supervisory skills are preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
  • Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to supervise employees, maintain records, and establish positive working relationships.
  • Willingness to uphold appearance standards appropriate for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual tasks such as washing windows, walls, and woodwork, cleaning lavatories, sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, mopping, dusting, and polishing.
  • Conduct routine maintenance including minor repairs to buildings, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, vehicles, and maintenance equipment.
  • Assist in grounds maintenance by performing snow and ice removal, mowing, trimming, and landscaping as required.
  • Provide security for buildings and grounds, ensuring safety and proper locking procedures.
  • Setup rooms for events and coordinate transportation between campus and student housing.
  • Attend graduation ceremonies as required and serve on campus committees and teams.
  • Comply with safety regulations, report concerns, and maintain a clean and orderly environment.
