About The Position

Under the general direction of Parks & Rec Managers and Supervisor IV, the Crew Lead I will perform a variety of building repair work as well as assist with the coordination of park operation, and leading grounds maintenance of all recreation and park facilities at the county parks. Work schedule will change throughout year, to include rotating weekend shifts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 12th grade or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience in general maintenance.
  • Six (6) years of diversified experience in parks maintenance or recreation management; two (2) years must be in a supervisory position.
  • Considerable knowledge of park operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations for parks operation.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in a variety of grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of small water systems.
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance, working knowledge of general fixture repairs.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and management.
  • Skilled in customer service and communication to resolve complaints, disputes or confrontational situations.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to make sound decisions concerning rule violations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish good working relations with employees and other agencies including, but not limited to department staff, county staff, event organizers, volunteer organizations, both organized and singular, community partners, and park users.
  • Ability to establish good public relations with the general public.
  • Ability to complete and maintain certification in small water systems.
  • Must be available 24 hours a day for emergencies.
  • Work hours vary and include early mornings, late nights, and weekends.
  • Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License and have a good driving record.
  • Must be adaptable to changing work hours as hours may be varied due to scheduled events/activities.
  • Working days could include weekends and working hours could include early mornings and late nights.
  • Must be able to operate motorized vehicles and equipment, including pickup truck, tractors, lawn mowers, pumps, compressors, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, mobile radio, phone, public address systems, other communications equipment, and fax machine.
  • The successful candidate may be required to complete a pre-employment background check prior to starting the position.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Assist managers in preparing for events, functions, equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Repair faucets, unclog drains, repair pipes, basic carpentry.
  • Install or repair wiring systems, light fixtures, outlets, bulbs and perform other electrical work.
  • Provide customer service and maintain the cleanliness of work areas.
  • Lead, direct and train grounds crews in grounds maintenance.
  • Train groundskeepers in the proper use of equipment.
  • Work with managers to organize part-time employee work schedules and priorities and follow-up to ensure work is properly completed.
  • Serve as lead for all events at parks when directed.
  • Track all accidents and make necessary reports.
  • Address rule violations and resolve situations that arise involving those violations and document all resolutions.
  • Enforce parks ordinances, policies, procedures, and safety regulations governing the use of park facilities, equipment, and personnel.
  • Keep Parks and Recreation Manager informed of all activities.
