Pinchin is seeking a Building Science Technologist / Senior Building Science Technologist to join our Building Science team in Mississauga, ON. The role reports to the Operations Manager. The successful candidate will bring a strong foundational understanding of building systems, including architectural features such as structural components, building envelopes, mechanical and electrical systems, roofing, interior elements, and site features.

Requirements

  • Architectural Technician/Civil Engineering Technologist /Construction Technician/Science diploma, B.A. or B.Sc. in Architecture, B.Sc. in Building Science.
  • Knowledge of building envelope assemblies is required.
  • Experience writing technical reports is required.
  • Must be able to read technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and ability to read and interpret technical specifications, drawings, and reports
  • Ability to perform fieldwork, including safely transporting ladders, tools, and PPE, with availability to travel and a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle (expenses reimbursed)

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency using AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Experience with building construction or maintenance preferred.
  • Level I drone license will be considered an asset.
  • Level I thermography will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Contract Administration will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments of existing buildings and structures (roof assemblies, exterior cladding assemblies, balcony assemblies, fenestrations, and parking garage structures) to determine design and remedial work options.
  • Conduct invasive building assessments and testing (ex. Roof cut tests, water / leak tests, etc.)
  • Carry out all necessary quantity take-offs and measurements over the course of a project.
  • Development of designs and specifications for restoration projects, including creating detailed AutoCAD drawings.
  • Carry out construction reviews to ensure quality standards and design requirements are achieved.
  • Prepare written reports of findings, summarizing, and interpreting the results of field data.
  • Financial involvement and coordination with project.
  • Maintain QA/QC protocols.
  • Maintain health and safety protocols as well as quality control within the group.
  • Perform any other job-related duties that may be assigned.
