About The Position

Morgridge Hall is a state‑of‑the‑art facility at the heart of the new College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence (CAI), and we are excited to invite applications for a Facilities Manager who will help keep this dynamic space running smoothly. This role is central to ensuring that our building, its systems, and its occupants are supported every day.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of relevant professional work experience related to facilities management the responsibilities of the position
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills including responsive and timeliness in addressing requests and questions by CAI stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership and success in overseeing facilities and grounds operations
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills that contribute to positive and productive workplace relationships and effective partnerships
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in solving problems and managing competing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all building-related issues involving both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage all building activities including determining, scheduling, and overseeing repairs facilitated by FP&M as well as contractors that may be needed.
  • Serve as main CAI point of contact for FP&M Maintenance, Custodial Services, and Environmental, Health & Safety, as well as, UWPD and Access Control.
  • Interfaces with contractors, vendors, and others working in the building to make sure they have access and are accomplishing tasks with minimal disruption to occupants.
  • Submit FP&M Physical Plant work orders to address building needs; track all maintenance and repair work; and communicate impact to occupants.
  • Manage an established budget ensuring sound fiscal responsibility to maintain and protect building systems, equipment, and services.
  • Communicate breakdowns, ongoing work, and changes (e.g., area closures, changes to building hours) to CAI stakeholders in a timely and effective manner.
  • Serve as the Unit Transportation Coordinator (UTC) for CAI; help employees of CAI navigate parking and transportation on campus by answering questions and providing support.
  • Support building access, keys, and card permissions for faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Support space planning, room assignments, and event setup needs in coordination with the groups leading these efforts.
  • Serve as CAI’s primary contact for emergency response, safety drills, and incident reporting.
  • Coordinate with UWPD and FP&M regarding emergency planning and creation of Morgridge Hall Occupant Emergency Plan, Continuity of Operations Plan, and staff training.
  • Maintain internal building systems for room reservations in coordination with CAI IT (referring to Event Management System and display screens around the building).
  • Maintain up to date communication and information around building maintenance and systems on the Morgridge Hall Knowledge Base.
  • Establishes priorities for scheduled mechanical and electrical services within the area of responsibility, administering preventive maintenance programs for facilities, inspecting facilities to determine repair or replacement needs, and supervising the performance of emergency and routine maintenance on campus facilities within the area of responsibility.
  • Coordinates and sometimes directly supervises the performance of emergency and routine maintenance on campus facilities.
  • Minimizes institutional liability regarding the university's compliance with federal regulations and regulations governing environmental protection, the handling of hazardous materials and hazardous waste, and the use of chemical substances and materials.
  • Provides emergency on-call support on an as needed basis for evening and weekend facility issues.
  • Ensures that the work performance of employees in the area of responsibility and maintenance zones or sections as a whole meet university standards and expectations.
  • Ensures all protection systems such as fire panels, smoke/heat detectors, sprinkler systems, and pumps are maintained in accordance with the regulatory requirements and industry standards and ensures all emergency generators/power systems, rigging systems, and elevators are properly maintained in accordance with industry standards and are operational at all times.
  • Works with procurement services and planning, design and construction as appropriate in developing bid specifications and contract documents for contract work to be performed, obtaining, reviewing, and analyzing estimates from reputable vendors, and preparing the bid tabulation sheets and associated paperwork to support the request.
