About The Position

This is a full-time, in-person, and essential position within the Division of Facilities Management - North District. The role operates at a fully independent level to respond, troubleshoot, and correct building issues during normal operating hours. The position requires travel to various facilities including Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan, Wheat Ridge Regional Center, Gilliam Youth Services Center, Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center, Marvin W. Foote Youth Services Center, Mount View Youth Services Center, Platte Valley Youth Services Center, and Prairie Vista Youth Services Center. Duties involve building temperature control, minor plumbing and electrical repairs, minor building security issues, and making machine room rounds/equipment checks. Positions operate independently to perform a full range of tasks and determine solutions to problems by applying specific processes, techniques, and methods.

Requirements

  • Four years of building maintenance experience, including general maintenance and repairs in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, HVAC, ground maintenance, and locksmithing.
  • State of Colorado residency at the time of application and throughout employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid non-restricted Colorado driver’s license.
  • Must successfully pass Motor Vehicle Check.
  • Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
  • Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a medical or religious exemption.
  • Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Must be able to work various hours for coverage, weather-related issues, and essential/emergency services outside of normal business hours.
  • Must disclose any prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination from State employment and explain why it should not disqualify from the current position.

Responsibilities

  • Performs HVAC troubleshooting, repairs, and adjustments to various HVAC systems for patient, client, and laboratory comfort, including thermostat adjustments and minor airflow modifications.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks on HVAC systems such as filter change-outs, coil cleaning, belt replacement, and greasing bearings.
  • Performs plumbing troubleshooting and repairs to plumbing fixtures, including unblocking sinks, toilets, floor drains, and sewer drain lines.
  • Performs electrical troubleshooting and minor repairs, including light switches, receptacles, resetting circuit breakers, power cords, light bulb replacement, electric door locks, and HVAC controls.
  • Performs general building maintenance, including wall repair, flooring repairs, and painting.
  • Performs mechanical room inspections and repairs, minor fence repairs, lock repairs, door repairs, hinge repairs, and fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) installation.
  • Performs minor roof repairs, carpet repairs, window repairs, sprinkler system repairs, and fire alarm system repairs.
  • Complies with the safety program and tool and key control.
  • Performs administrative duties including using the Maximo work order system, labor tracking, reconciling purchasing cards, and completing required monthly status reports.
  • Completes record-keeping tasks for work order tracking and other computer duties.
  • Provides Job Safety Analyses.
  • Performs snow removal and other duties as assigned.
  • Travels to District sites as needed to other North Central District (NCD) facilities.
  • Monitors and controls expenses in accordance with the budget.
  • Provides supervisor with estimates and proposed costs for preventative and routine maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Responds to call-backs when required to report to work before the start or after the end of a scheduled shift, receiving a minimum of two hours of pay or actual time spent, whichever is greater.
