They execute routine tasks in plumbing (unstopping drains, replacing fixtures), electrical (replacing ballasts, switches, and receptacles), and HVAC (changing filters, belts, and motors). This role also involves maintaining 87 acres of school grounds, which may include fence repair, sidewalk installation, snow removal, and operating heavy equipment like tractors or mowers. The worker conducts regularly scheduled inspections of facility equipment and safety systems to prevent major breakdowns and efficiently processes and completes work orders using computer-based inventory and maintenance systems. They are available for on-call duties or overtime during emergencies to ensure uninterrupted school operations. The position prioritizes daily tasks and activities to meet operational requirements, operates and utilizes a variety of tools and equipment, identifies maintenance issues, inspects devices such as electrical systems, basic plumbing, and mechanical systems, and performs routine repairs on standard work equipment. They also perform minor construction projects, plumbing tasks, landscaping tasks, and basic welding. The role involves reviewing preventative maintenance plans, performing daily walk-throughs/inspections of facilities, assisting in inventory of supplies and materials, providing direction and oversight to others as needed, reporting inventory status to supervisors, reading work orders, communicating with outside vendors and customers, operating state-issued vehicles, performing repair work using diagrams, and assisting supervisors in determining needed supplies or materials. Additionally, they provide expert advice regarding payment and application processes, provide input regarding sub-processes for process improvements, assist in unloading supplies, tools, and equipment, move objects, restock maintenance supplies, set up spaces for events, and record routine reports of time expended and materials used.
