About The Position

The purpose of this position is to supervise skilled and semi-skilled employees engaged in the maintenance and upkeep of various buildings under the jurisdiction of the Department of General Services. Employees in this classification perform routine carpentry and maintenance work, review work tickets, order materials for projects, and supervise maintenance and carpentry projects. This position performs supervisory activities in managing assigned staff which involves scheduling, instructing, assigning, reviewing work, maintaining standards through the effective coordination of activities, maintaining records on all shop and hand held power tools, and handling of related personnel situations. Employee plans, assigns, and supervises all phases of building maintenance activities. Supervises and participates in carpentry design and repair projects to ensure that all work is done as assigned and performed properly. Estimates the cost of supplies and ensures crews have the materials and supplies needed to complete assigned projects. Provides recommendations for major repairs. Performs related work as required. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.

Requirements

  • Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish; OR Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent certificate.
  • Six (6) months of paid work experience in the construction, maintenance, alteration, or repair of buildings indicating the knowledge and related skills needed to supervise the upkeep of various parish facilities.
  • OR One (1) year of paid work experience in the construction, maintenance, alteration, or repair of buildings to include at least six (6) months of this experience in a supervisory capacity.
