About The Position

This position is responsible for performing routine repairs and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and vehicles. It also involves completing groundskeeping activities to maintain and enhance the appearance of the property, as well as undertaking minor plumbing and carpentry repairs. The role includes performing electrical work and preventative maintenance on Salvation Army vehicles, including monitoring and replenishing fluid levels. Additionally, the Building Maintenance Mechanic will maintain the grounds by collecting debris and ensuring their beautification, and will be responsible for assembling and moving office furniture.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years experience operating an automotive vehicle, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid state driver’s license may be required.
  • Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance practices, including routine repairs and the safe operation of maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate passenger vehicles, follow safe driving practices, and meet Salvation Army driving and insurance requirements.
  • Knowledge of passenger transportation safety, including route planning, map reading, and time management to ensure timely arrivals.
  • Ability to learn through on-the-job training, follow instructions, and apply established procedures effectively.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical work, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform continuous physical activities, including walking, standing, stooping, and occasional climbing.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., as well as continuous walking, standing, stooping, and occasional climbing.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle safely, including driving in heavy traffic, traveling for extended periods, and overnight travel when required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine building maintenance activities.
  • Performs minor plumbing repairs required by leaking faucets and clogged toilets.
  • Performs carpentry work required to repair dents and/or holes in walls and paints walls.
  • Performs electrical work.
  • Performs preventative maintenance of Salvation Army vehicles; monitors and replenishes all fluid levels.
  • Maintains the grounds to include collecting debris; maintains the beautification of the grounds.
  • Assembles and moves office furniture including chairs, desks, tables, bulletin boards, etc.
