About The Position

The Building Inspector plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, safety, and code compliance of commercial and industrial construction projects. This position is responsible for performing highly technical inspections throughout various stages of construction, with a primary focus on building and structural components and, where appropriately licensed, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The ideal candidate is a reliable, trustworthy professional who can work effectively in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable balancing independent fieldwork with collaboration among contractors, engineers, architects, clients, and internal teams.

Requirements

  • Current South Carolina Standard Building Inspector License is required.
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass required background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • South Carolina Electrical Inspector License.
  • South Carolina Mechanical Inspector License.
  • South Carolina Plumbing Inspector License.
  • Building Code Administrator credential or experience.
  • Experience performing commercial or industrial building inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Perform building and structural inspections on commercial and industrial construction projects, including buildings under construction, repair, remodeling, or expansion.
  • Conduct inspections at various stages of construction to verify compliance with applicable building codes, approved plans, specifications, ordinances, and project requirements.
  • Inspect foundations, concrete slabs, structural framing, roofing, and related construction activities.
  • Perform mechanical, electrical, and plumbing inspections within the scope of applicable licenses and qualifications.
  • Review plans, blueprints, and specifications and identify potential code or construction issues.
  • Determine whether changes to plans or construction may be required and communicate recommendations to contractors, engineers, architects, and other project stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and current inspection records.
  • Prepare clear, timely, and understandable inspection reports and other required documentation.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with contractors, clients, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure project requirements are met and work is compliant with inspection specifications, applicable codes, and company policies and procedures.
  • Complete daily time and labor reports and submit required paperwork in accordance with company procedures.
  • Attend department and project meetings as required.
  • Maintain and monitor the condition of an assigned company vehicle, including coordinating routine maintenance.
  • Travel to various job sites throughout the southeast.
  • Work varying schedules as needed to support business requirements. Occasional overnight and weekend work may be required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
