About The Position

Under close supervision, performs work of routine difficulty as an entry-level position to secure compliance with zoning regulations and including, but not limited to, the Municipal Building Codes, California Building Codes, California Mechanical Codes, California Plumbing Codes, and the California Electrical Codes. Work involves field inspection, plan examination, and related office work necessary to secure compliance with zoning regulations and Municipal Building Codes. Incumbents are closely supervised on a daily basis by the Building Inspector III. Performs other work as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED
  • Successful completion of an acceptable course in building codes
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience, which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties
  • Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License
  • BUILDING INSPECTOR I: In addition to the above, must have an additional four (4) years of journey-level experience in building inspection, building construction (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical), architecture, design, plan permitting, or related field
  • BUILDING INSPECTOR II: In addition to the above, must have an additional five (5) years of journey-level experience in building inspection, building construction (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical), architecture, design, plan permitting, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Performs work of routine difficulty to secure compliance with zoning regulations and Municipal Building Codes, California Building Codes, California Mechanical Codes, California Plumbing Codes, and the California Electrical Codes.
  • Conducts field inspections.
  • Performs plan examinations.
  • Completes related office work necessary to secure compliance with zoning regulations and Municipal Building Codes.
