About The Position

The Building Engineer performs various routine maintenance assignments and assists other Facilities Management personnel in the repair and maintenance of physical structures, equipment, and fixtures of the facility and grounds. This role involves a range of duties including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing repairs, as well as general maintenance services. The engineer will collaborate with supervisors and colleagues, utilize a work order system, and ensure safe and efficient operations. Responsibilities also include responding to emergencies, adhering to safety regulations, and potentially driving for business purposes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 2 years commercial, industrial, or healthcare maintenance experience
  • 5 years commercial, industrial, or healthcare maintenance experience
  • Ability to easily and effectively communicate and collaborate with facility personnel.
  • Ability to handle computer data entry input
  • Some knowledge and skill in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical and general maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Perform carpentry duties, including installing shelving and repairing windows, screens, blinds, and suspended ceilings.
  • Handle electrical duties such as replacing switches, resetting breakers, and changing bulbs and ballasts.
  • Check thermostats and address hot and cold calls for HVAC systems.
  • Perform light plumbing repairs, including changing washers and valves, and shutting off water.
  • Provide general maintenance services for facility personnel, such as assembling furniture and moving items.
  • Utilize power tools and other equipment.
  • Assist other trades during emergencies or overload situations, including snow removal and groundskeeping.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and Facilities Management personnel to leverage expertise for task completion.
  • Report defective materials, faulty equipment operation, and unusual matters to supervisors.
  • Inspect spaces, electrical, mechanical equipment, controls, and systems, and file deficiency reports to correct problems and ensure safe, reliable operations at peak energy efficiency.
  • Work from a work order system using wireless tablets and/or verbal instructions.
  • Prioritize work requests based on department procedures and notify supervisors of any problems or delays.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a safe, clean, and orderly condition, following safety regulations.
  • Report any violation of OSHA Regulations to supervisors.
  • Exercise and ensure adherence to safe working practices, including wearing appropriate safety apparel.
  • Respond to all facility emergency codes.
  • Attend all facility-sponsored training, such as Blood Borne Pathogens, Fire Safety, and Right-To-Know.
  • Potentially drive personal or facility-owned vehicles for business purposes, subject to driving record reviews.
  • Handle multiple priorities and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Work effectively alone and manage stress appropriately.
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all individuals.
  • Promote effective working relations and collaborate effectively within and between departments.
  • May accompany authorities inspecting buildings or mechanical systems.
