About The Position

As a Building Custodian with East Harlem Scholars Academies, you will play an essential role in maintaining a clean, safe, welcoming, and well-functioning school environment for students, staff, and families. You will be responsible for daily cleaning and maintenance of classrooms, common areas, restrooms, and other school facilities; responding to building needs and addressing safety or maintenance concerns; and supporting the preparation of spaces for school activities and events. You will work collaboratively with school staff and leadership to ensure the building is consistently maintained to a high standard, helping create a healthy and supportive environment where students and staff can learn, work, and thrive.

Requirements

  • Hold yourself to high professional and ethical standards.
  • Enjoy and/or have experience working with diverse populations of students and communities.
  • Be open to the excitement and challenges of a growing organization.
  • Have the ability to comfortably lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Have experience working in a custodial or janitorial position.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all student spaces are safe and accessible.
  • Ensure that all building spaces are regularly organized and disinfected.
  • Ensure that all restrooms are fully stocked and disinfected.
  • Ensure that staff and student eating spaces are sanitary and welcoming.
  • Ensure that all student spaces comply with DOHMH standards for cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Support with furniture moves and assembly as needed.
  • Provide support for special staff, student and family events, including decoration set up and clean up, furniture moves and set up, and food set-up and cleaning.
