About The Position

Saskatoon Co-op is seeking a Building Consultant to join their team. This role is responsible for being the first point of customer contact, understanding customer needs, and directing them regarding construction projects. The Building Consultant will also develop relationships, promote customer satisfaction, and maintain professional relationships with third-party stakeholders. A key aspect of the role is to become familiar with all merchandise handled in the Home Centre and maintain a high level of product knowledge. The position involves responding to customer inquiries, placing special orders, forwarding delivery information, and ensuring accurate billing. The Building Consultant will also investigate and adjust customer complaints, provide estimates for projects, assist in preparing reports, and perform administrative duties. Maintaining awareness against the unauthorized removal of merchandise and performing other assigned duties are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must possess a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Hardware and Building Materials.
  • Must possess a recognized estimator certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Must possess sufficient experience in building materials and construction methods to effectively operate in all areas of the department.
  • Must be strongly service oriented and motivated, and capable of serving and assisting customers in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Must be well organized and capable of attaining a high level of production with minimum supervision.
  • Must be prepared to increase product knowledge and improve selling techniques through special courses, product clinics and training sessions.
  • Applicants must be proficient in computer-based sale software and programs (Seljax, Quotetracker).
  • Possess a sufficient working knowledge of the Saskatoon and National Building Codes.
  • Possess the ability and experience in professional selling.
  • Must be able to work mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends.
  • A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Be the first point of customer contact, understand customer needs, and direct customers regarding the construction of projects.
  • Develop relationships and promote high level customer satisfaction through trust, service, and integrity.
  • Maintain professional business relationships with 3rd party stakeholders such as vendors and suppliers.
  • Become familiar with all lines of merchandise handled in the Home Centre and constantly maintain a high level of product knowledge.
  • Respond to customers inquiries by email and phone in a timely fashion.
  • Open and close the Home Centre as directed by the Unit Manager.
  • Place special orders with suppliers to fill customer requirements.
  • Forward information regarding deliveries to the shipper.
  • Be responsible for accurate billing of all merchandise sold by the employee.
  • Investigate and adjust customer complaints regarding products and services, and refer serious matters to the department manager.
  • Provide accurate and timely estimates on project including additions, renovations, garage packages, and small projects.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining reports as required.
  • Assist on the service counter or on the sales floor as required.
  • Perform any administrative duties as required.
  • Maintain a constant alert against the unauthorized removal of merchandise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
