About The Position

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is accepting applications for a Building and Grounds - Grounds Worker position within the Facilities Department. This role involves performing a variety of tasks to maintain and repair buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment across all MCPS properties to ensure operational excellence. The position requires the ability to work independently or as part of a team, and to assist other personnel with interior and exterior maintenance and repair tasks as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License
• Experience with mowing equipment including zero turn mowers, weed eaters, and farm type tractors
• Possess a working knowledge of mechanical tools needed to perform daily service of grounds equipment
• Physical strength and endurance to perform repetitive manual tasks that include lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to follow written and oral directions
• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
• Ability to maintain a safe work environment
• Ability to work well with others
• Must be dependable, reliable, and punctual

Nice To Haves

• Obtaining a class “A” Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire
• Obtain a Fertilizer and Commercial Herbicides/ Pesticides Applicators License within 4 months of hire
• Virginia Class “A” Operators License
• Commercial Herbicides/Pesticides Applicators License
• Experience with tractors having 12 foot or larger grooming mowing attachments

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment of all MCPS property within the county to maintain a condition of operating excellence.
• Conduct snow removal, mowing, operating weed eaters, mulching, hand weeding, and trimming of shrubs and trees.
• Remove debris from grounds and structures.
• Work independently or as part of a team to maintain grounds.
• Aid other personnel in the maintenance and repair, both interior and exterior, in carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, and HVAC equipment as and when needed.
