About The Position

Tidewater Tech is seeking a Building and Construction Trades Instructor to provide high-quality instruction and hands-on training that prepares adult students for entry-level careers in the skilled trades. Teaching areas include Air Conditioning and Refrigeration and Controls, Commercial Equipment and Repair, Structural Building Repair, Plumbing Applications, and Tiling, Flooring, and General Repairs. The instructor helps students develop practical skills, industry knowledge, and confidence through engaging lessons and current learning resources. No prior teaching experience is required. Tidewater Tech provides a five-day paid instructor training program to support the transition into the classroom. The position is located at 2331 E Little Creek Rd, Norfolk, VA 23518, with a schedule Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Compensation is up to $32 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least three years of hands-on practical experience in building and construction trades.
OSHA 10-hour safety certification within six months of hire.
EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Transition Certification within six months of hire.
Demonstrated up-to-date subject-matter knowledge and continuing study of the subject matter.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven, compliance-oriented educational environment.
Detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized, and able to multitask and work well under pressure.
High integrity, strong work ethic, and professionalism.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, with a strong customer-service focus in an educational setting.

Responsibilities

Teach assigned classes regularly and create a welcoming environment conducive to learning.
Assist the Program Coordinator, Campus Director of Education, or Campus Executive Director with curriculum development, course materials, and scheduling.
Establish and maintain academic and attendance records for student files.
Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and lab.
Submit attendance, grades, student evaluations, and other required documents and reports according to established procedures.
Notify the Supervisor of potential issues requiring immediate attention.
Use school-approved retention techniques.
Complete performance-based teacher education modules assigned by the Supervisor or campus management, as needed based on classroom observations, instructor evaluations, and student surveys.
Assist with department equipment and supplies inventory and submit purchase requests as needed.
Assist with maintenance and utilization of program equipment.
Attend or conduct in-service training, faculty meetings, and other mandatory meetings.
Alert the Supervisor to student absences, especially on first, third, and fifth absence occurrences.
Perform other tasks assigned by the Supervisor.
