About The Position

Glacier is a Series A startup based in San Francisco focused on solving the problem of trash by improving recycling processes. They build custom sorting robots and AI-powered business analytics for recyclers. Their technology has received recognition from TIME, TechCrunch, Fortune, and CBS. Glacier is seeking a self-motivated Build Technician to join their production team to help scale deployments to new customer sites nationwide. This role reports directly to the Production Manager.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with tools and equipment common in hardware manufacturing, including hand tools, power tools (electric/air), measurement tools, and electrical tools (multimeter).
  • 2+ years of professional experience assembling robotic systems or similar complex machinery.
  • Ability to occasionally move items weighing up to 50 lbs around install/build sites, with reasonable accommodations.
  • Proficiency in reading and comprehending technical documents such as assembly SOPs and test processes.
  • Ability to work from the San Francisco office (SOMA neighborhood) on most days.
  • Ability to travel and work on-site occasionally (typically up to a few days at a time), including some nights and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of electrical circuits, mechanical components, and sensors commonly used in robotics or automation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build and test in-house robots and scanners according to engineering instructions to support scaling deployments to customer sites.
  • Organize and maintain build facilities, tools, and related supplies.
  • Provide feedback to engineers on build design and instructions.
  • Assist the operations team with customer installations and associated packing, which may include travel and working occasional overnight or weekend shifts.
  • Perform incoming inspection of custom parts based on part drawings.
  • Collaborate with R&D and field service engineers to refine technical documents like assembly standard operating procedures (SOPs) and test protocols.
