About The Position

The School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences at San Diego State University is seeking a Budget Coordinator to play a central role in maintaining the success of the financial and operational organization in one of the largest academic departments on campus. The position combines detailed budget coordination with administrative support and serves as a central point of contact for faculty, staff, students, and campus departments on a wide range of fiscal and procedural matters.

Requirements

  • Fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices.
  • Ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures.
  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages.
  • High school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.
  • Experience in requisitioning and purchasing supplies, services and equipment.
  • Experience with standard purchasing policy and procedures and/or accounts payable.
  • Demonstrated experience tracking complex expenditure budgets.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and external community partners.
  • Must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic.
  • Experience at CSU or other academic environments is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with purchasing and budget tracking is preferred.
  • Experience in travel coordination and execution is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and reconcile SDSU and Foundation budgets, managing purchases and reimbursements, and preparing budget summaries and reports.
  • Serve as a resource to navigate financial processes, resolve issues, and ensure resources are used effectively.
  • Coordinate events, shared spaces, administrative systems, and day-to-day operations.
  • Provide guidance and improve workflows that help students, faculty, and staff succeed.
  • Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, travel, purchasing, and startup funds for new faculty.
  • Guide faculty through university processes and secure equipment, supplies, and services needed to establish laboratories and research activities.
