About The Position

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for a Budget Analyst – Fiscal Liaison. This role is responsible for facilitating the implementation and providing oversight of fiscal plans and program objectives related to state and federal budget projections. The position provides guidance to programs for state and federal grant/project obligation and management, contract management, and program execution support. This position is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities. It reports to the Fiscal Liaison & Support Section Supervisor and does not supervise others. The Fiscal Liaison & Support Section is located in the Helena, MT office. This position will be expected to work in office at least 3 days a week, with 2 days a week being optional remote work days.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • 1 year of accounting, budget, or related financial experience (for Level 2.1).
  • 2 years of accounting, budget, or related financial experience (for Level 2.2).
  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices, and requirements relative to government finance, accounting, cost accounting, budgeting, and auditing.
  • Ability to conduct, apply, and translate research and analysis of relevant data into viable recommendations and support materials for decision makers.
  • Effective communication skills when formulating and presenting required information or recommendations to program areas.
  • Must pass a name-based background investigation as a condition of employment.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States must be provided if selected for hire.

  • Alternative combinations of related experience and education may be considered. Such as 4 years of related experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
