About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Southcoast Region Support Services is seeking a Budget Analyst 1 to assist in financial reporting and support leadership. This role involves being the primary expert for budget analysis and performance reporting, ensuring key performance initiatives are tracked and communicated. The Budget Analyst will work closely with the Regional Director, Deputy Regional Director, and Administrative Operations Manager to maintain the region's financial and strategic direction. Key duties include analyzing spending, monitoring budgets, delivering monthly and quarterly reports, developing the annual operating budget, leading the implementation of new software systems like Agile Assets and training new hires, gathering and analyzing budget data for legislative and budgetary inquiries, and ensuring emergency response spending is properly tracked and reimbursed.

Requirements

  • Two years of technical level experience in accounting, budget, finance, or similar field.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Oral and Written Communication skills.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving skills.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of budget administration and analysis.
  • Self-Management skills, including initiative, effort, commitment, minimal supervision, motivation, and responsible behavior.
  • Permanent employment status in any position in the classified service with the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Administrative Operations Manager to analyze spending, monitor budgets, and deliver accurate monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Develop and refine the region’s annual operating budget.
  • Lead the implementation of new software systems, such as Agile Assets, and train new hires on their usage.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for ongoing support and system improvements for new software.
  • Gather, consolidate, and analyze budget data to respond to legislative and budgetary inquiries.
  • Ensure emergency response spending is properly tracked and coded, resolving issues, and ensuring full reimbursement for the region.
