About The Position

WAVY-TV 10/WVBT FOX43 is seeking a dynamic Broadcast Engineering Intern for the Spring 2027 semester. This unpaid, for-credit position involves working closely with IT and engineering staff to maintain broadcast systems, identify and resolve problems to ensure transmission reliability, and participate in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new services and software. The intern will also troubleshoot TVU live packs and live broadcast capabilities from ENG and SAT trucks. The ideal candidate is studying communications, engineering, or equivalent, with an interest in broadcast engineering, live broadcast technologies, and/or the design, construction, and operation of complex broadcast systems. This role requires a willingness to learn the inner workings of a local newsroom and understand inter-departmental functions within a TV station. The intern must be enrolled in a college degree-granting program and provide proof of enrollment in an internship course within their program before starting.

Requirements

• Must be studying communications, engineering, or equivalent courses.
• Must have an interest in broadcast engineering and live broadcast technologies, and/or an interest in the design, construction, and operation of complex broadcast systems.
• Must have a willingness to learn the inner workings of a local newsroom and how all departments in a TV station work to support each other.
• Must be enrolled in a college degree-granting program.
• Will be required to show proof of enrollment in an internship course within that program before beginning.
• Ability to work Monday through Friday.
• 12-15 hours per week on site.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with IT and engineering staff to maintain broadcast systems.
• Identify problems and assist in resolving them rapidly to maintain the highest levels of transmission reliability for the station.
• Participate in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new services and software.
• Troubleshoot TVU live packs and live capabilities (ENG and SAT trucks).
