About The Position

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring public safety and mobility. This role involves preparing and painting iron and steel components on bridges and other elevated structures under supervision. Responsibilities include chipping, cleaning, and preparing surfaces, rigging, mixing paints, performing lead removal and containment, removing graffiti, and driving vehicles.

Requirements

  • Must have filed for and be reachable on the Bridge Painter Exam #5042.
  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience performing structural steel painting (painting bridges, towers, aerials, tanks, or other elevated steel structures using rigging and scaffolding).
  • At least three (3) years of this experience must have been at the journeyman/journeywoman level.
  • Possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment.
  • Must obtain a New York State Class B Commercial Driver License with no restrictions within the probationary period and maintain it for the duration of employment.
