About The Position

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City. Under supervision, prepares and paints iron and steel components on bridges and other elevated structures. Chips, cleans, and prepares iron and steel surfaces. Rigs line and tackle and mix colors and paints. Performs lead removal and containment. Removes graffiti on the arterial highway system. Drives trucks and other motor vehicles. Performs other related duties.

Requirements

  • Must have filed for T. and be reachable on the Bridge Painter List, Exam 5042.
  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience performing structural steel painting, which is defined as painting bridges, towers, aerials, tanks, or other elevated steel structures using rigging and scaffolding.
  • At least three (3) years of this experience must have been at the journeyman/journeywoman level (i.e., a fully trained, knowledgeable, experienced, proficient and competent elevated steel structures painter).
  • Possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York.
  • Serious moving violations, license suspension or accident record may disqualify.
  • Must obtain a New York State Class B Commercial Driver License with no restrictions within the probationary period.
  • Must maintain a New York State Class B Commercial License with no restrictions for the duration of employment.
