About The Position

Transportation Maintenance Specialist 2 – Bridge Maintenance Specialist for the Oregon Department of Transportation Delivery and Operations Division – Region 3 Bridge Maintenance Crew in Coos Bay. This role involves operating equipment to maintain and repair bridges and structures, and assisting with emergency cleanup and traffic control after storms, spills, and incidents. Requirements

  • One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work.
  • OR Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.
  • Must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with a tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions, OR have the ability to acquire a class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire and a CDL-A with a tanker endorsement and restrictions removed within six months of hire (ODOT will cover training costs).
  • A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required.
  • Pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.
  • Maximum 30 minute response time to 1155 S. 5th St., Coos Bay, OR 97420 for emergency call-outs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in road maintenance, construction or in a maintenance training program such as ODOT High School to Highway program, ODOT/ODF Fire and Ice program, Job Corps, etc.
  • A current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A), commercial driver's license B (CDL-B) or commercial learner permit (CLP) is preferred.
  • Welding and metal fabrication experience.
  • Experience working at extreme heights up to 400 feet.
  • Experience completing mechanical repairs on equipment.
  • Experience using tools to perform concrete work.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and tools to maintain, repair, reconstruct and strengthen bridges, box culverts and other structures.
  • Operate electrically controlled drawbridges, traffic gates and barriers.
  • Maintain operation of all electrical controls that activate sirens, flashing traffic lights, barriers and gates.
  • Check all electrical and mechanical devices and components and fix issues.
  • Maintain, repair and grease machinery, electronics, motors, gears, rollers, hinges, cables, sheaves and other mechanical parts for drawbridge operation.
  • Construct and place rigging and scaffolding for fixed, hanging, swing and traveling scaffolding.
  • Perform visual inspection of structures for repairs.
  • Assist with weather related emergencies and operate snowplows, deicer trucks and other equipment to clear snow from roadways.
