About The Position

A Bridge Carpenter at Primoris Heavy Civil in Shreveport, LA is responsible for constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing wooden structures and fixtures of bridges, such as forms, scaffolds, falsework, and handrails. This role requires precision, adherence to safety protocols, and a strong understanding of bridge construction techniques.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a bridge carpenter or in heavy civil construction carpentry.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, scheoscopes, and construction drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately measure, cut, and shape wood and other construction materials.
  • Strong understanding of concrete forming techniques and falsework construction.
  • Experience with various hand and power tools commonly used in carpentry.
  • Knowledge of construction safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent physical stamina and strength for demanding manual labor.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, scheoscopes, and sketches to determine specifications and to calculate dimensions and materials required.
  • Measure, cut, and shape wood, plywood, and other materials using hand and power tools.
  • Build wooden forms for concrete pouring, ensuring they are accurately aligned, plumbed, and securely braced.
  • Construct and erect falsework and scaffolding according to plans and safety regulations.
  • Install and repair timber piling, caps, stringers, deck forms, and other structural components of bridges.
  • Erect and dismantle temporary structures, such as shoring and bracing.
  • Perform rough and finish carpentry work as needed for bridge projects.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently, including saws, drills, hammers, and levels.
  • Inspect work to ensure compliance with specifications, building codes, and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with other crew members, supervisors, and engineers to ensure project success.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
