About The Position

Zingerman's Bakehouse is hiring a Bread Baker to work on our team making and baking hand crafted, artisan breads. This is an active physical job where you will easily close those rings on your watch every day! You will learn a lot about naturally leavened bread, freshly milled flour, and more. You will join an experienced and dedicated bread baking team to create some of the best breads in Michigan. Requirements

  • Full time availability; 40 hours per week
  • Weekend availability
  • Holiday availability
  • Full availability in November and December
  • Strong basic math skills
  • Able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during an 8 hour shift
  • Able to stand, lift and bend for duration of an 8 hour shift
  • Comfortable with repetitive motion activities
  • Comfortable to work in a warm and humid environment. The bakery is 82 degrees!

Responsibilities

  • Monitors/assess the proofing and baking of many magical doughs
  • Loads, scores, bakes and unloads finished bread in the ovens
  • Accurately scales dough
  • Hand-shape multiple types of dough
  • Work with a sense of urgency at all times
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Must work well with others in a team environment
  • Must be able to self manage and work independently, with little direction for periods of time
  • Able to follow through with verbal instructions
  • Arrives on time to all shifts
  • Prepares ingredients and does set-up work - setting up boards screens, pans, and other equipment in preparation for making each type of bread
  • Works safely around hot ovens, heavy equipment, and sharp utensils
  • Keeps a clean and sanitary work area while following our food safety requirements
  • Completes basic orientation training passport within 90 days of hire
  • Attends and participates in the Bread department weekly huddles
  • Willingness to be flexible with schedule
