About The Position

This position involves working with children and adults in the corps and community to plan and implement a music program. The role includes teaching theory, performance skills, music, and values. The Brass Instructor will lead music and other arts programs, be responsible for lesson planning and curriculum implementation, and work with corps leadership to plan and attend recitals. The instructor will encourage participants to develop musical abilities, build self-esteem, and engage in positive activities. Additionally, the role involves organizing musical performances and community activities to promote the mission of The Salvation Army, and encouraging participation in summer camps and music programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in music preferred, or extensive experience teaching music.
  • A minimum of two years’ music experience working with children/adults.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in music theory and in a primary instrument.
  • Personal knowledge of music, including performance, education, and theory.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Must be a team player, self-starter, and follow through with assignments until completion.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
  • A strong commitment to support and promote the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside.
  • Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead music and other arts programs as assigned within the corps.
  • Plan music lessons weekly and implement the appropriate curriculum.
  • Work with corps leadership to plan and attend recitals.
  • Prepare corps music programs for end-of-year concerts.
  • Encourage participants to work towards goals and develop musical abilities.
  • Foster self-esteem, program pride, and positive activities among participants.
  • Help organize musical performances and community activities to promote the corps' mission.
  • Encourage participation in summer camps and assist in planning camper participation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
