About The Position

The Brand Retail Strategist is the primary point of contact for a portfolio of natural CPG brands that utilize Dirty Hands field merchandising services. This role is responsible for partnering with brands to develop a merchandising strategy that drives volume and velocity, then collaborating with field merchandising leadership to translate that strategy into realistic and effective priorities for field merchandising teams. Brand Retail Strategists will present updates and execution progress to brands through data-based and qualitative reporting with a goal of ensuring the retention, expansion, and success of brands. It is critical that a Brand Retail Strategist is an effective and clear communicator, can independently problem solve, is skilled at building strong partnerships, can interpret data and use it to guide and tell a story, and displays CPG, retailer, and natural food industry knowledge. This position reports to the Director of Brand Strategy and requires regular collaboration with the strategy team and field merchandising leadership.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of client-facing sales, analytics, and/or merchandising experience is required.
  • A proven track record of strong customer service and relationship building skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Quick-thinking problem solver with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Strong collaborator who takes initiative.
  • Motivated to work independently, managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficient computer and technology skills, particularly with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Slack, and project management tools such as AirTable.
  • Must be willing to travel up to four weeks of the year for field visits and other in person meetings.
  • Capable of meeting the physical requirements of making store visits with or without reasonable accommodation, including but not limited to standing, bending, squatting, reaching, repetitive motion and lifting 40-50 pounds.
  • Able to work in a seated position for an extended period of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the natural food industry at a brand, broker, or merchandiser is preferred
  • Preference for candidates with an analytical background.
  • Preference for experience in Excel building charts, utilizing formula functions, and pivot tables.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with brands to understand their objectives and translate objectives into a merchandising strategy that drives volume and velocity using Dirty Hands’ services.
  • Work with brands and field merchandising leadership to identify and set realistic and effective priorities for the field merchandising teams that align with brand objectives and merchandising strategy.
  • Collaborate with the strategy team and field merchandising leadership to support and drive the growth, retention, and expansion of brands.
  • Monitor merchandising execution to ensure that it aligns with brand goals and strategy, collaborate with field merchandising leadership to troubleshoot challenges, identify solutions, and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for assigned brands, ensuring consistency and clarity.
  • Own, develop, and elevate brand relationships with proactive and regular communication via email, Zoom calls, occasional in-person meetings, and field visits.
  • Assist with onboarding for new brands, which may include hosting orientation calls for the brand and launch calls for field teams.
  • Interprets and delivers data-based reports, GoSpotCheck visual data, and qualitative reporting showing progress on brand objectives.
  • Leverage data and successes to identify beneficial expansion opportunities for brands within Dirty Hands, including brokerage services, additional regions, additional retailers, and potential project work.
  • Assess and present wins and opportunities with a focus on identifying growth potential and increasing brand retention and expansion.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate field tools, including distribution reports, promotional calendars, SKU specifics, and retailer updates.
  • Participate in interviews with prospective clients to evaluate fit and identify opportunities for partnership.
  • Support contract proposals and onboarding strategies tailored to each brand’s unique needs and objectives.
  • Create and execute expansion strategies and plans, identifying opportunities for growth within existing or new retail channels.
  • Conduct partnership reviews to assess performance and identify areas for future collaboration.
