About The Position

The Brand Marketing Manager, Newsletter & Audience Growth is responsible for driving marketing-led growth and engagement of Boston Globe Media's newsletter and SMS audiences. This role leads the strategy, planning, execution, and optimization of initiatives that increase newsletter and SMS acquisition, improve audience engagement, and strengthen audience relationships across marketing touchpoints. The ideal candidate is a growth-oriented marketer who combines audience understanding, digital marketing expertise, creative thinking, and data-driven decision-making to build and grow engaged audiences.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of experience in growth marketing, audience marketing, email marketing, lifecycle marketing, CRM marketing, or related fields.
  • Proven experience driving newsletter growth, SMS growth, audience acquisition, or engagement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of email marketing, audience journeys, segmentation, conversion optimization, and engagement strategies.
  • Strong digital marketing knowledge and data literacy.
  • Experience developing and executing growth-focused marketing initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment.
  • Candidates should be based in the Boston area or willing to move.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategy, planning, execution, and optimization of marketing initiatives that drive newsletter and SMS audience growth.
  • Identify and activate opportunities to increase sign-ups across marketing campaigns, events, partnerships, products, and owned channels.
  • Establish growth goals, success metrics, and performance benchmarks.
  • Design audience journeys that improve conversion, engagement, and long-term audience value.
  • Recommend improvements to audience targeting, messaging, personalization, and lifecycle communications.
  • Partner across Editorial, Consumer Revenue, Product, and other teams to support audience growth objectives.
  • Lead marketing initiatives where newsletter or SMS growth is the primary objective.
  • Partner with the Senior Brand Marketing Manager, Integrated Campaigns to incorporate audience growth strategies into broader marketing initiatives.
  • Collaborate across teams to execute audience acquisition and engagement programs.
  • Identify and test new growth tactics, channels, partnerships, and promotional opportunities.
  • Analyze audience performance, acquisition trends, and engagement data to identify growth opportunities.
  • Lead testing and experimentation efforts to improve marketing acquisition and engagement performance.
  • Translate audience insights into actionable recommendations and marketing initiatives.
  • Apply a test-and-learn mindset to continuously improve audience growth outcomes.
