About The Position

This role is for a Branch Manager of Attractions, Culture and Nature in Edmonton. The position involves leading a diverse team of over 850 staff and managing a complex operation with a significant expenditure budget and revenue. The scope of responsibility includes major landmarks like the Edmonton Valley Zoo, Muttart Conservatory, and Fort Edmonton Park; heritage and culture initiatives such as the City Archives and Museums; nature and recreation areas including River Valley Parks and Municipal Golf Courses; civic vibrancy through events and festivals; and legacy services like Municipal Cemeteries. The role requires inspiring a large team, driving innovation, leading strategic growth aligned with City Council's vision, championing partnerships, planning infrastructure projects, elevating customer experience through technology, and stewarding civic resources through strategic budget allocation.

Requirements

  • A University Degree
  • Significant experience providing strategic leadership in a large complex organization of comparable scope and scale to this Branch, within either the private or public sectors
  • Combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Ability to navigate the complexities of a thriving municipality
  • Ability to motivate and inspire a team of passionate public servants
  • Proven track record of managing large budgets and teams
  • Agility and ability to anticipate business opportunities
  • Ability to influence city-wide policy planning and initiatives
  • Deep situational awareness to create credibility, build trust and preserve integrity
  • Stewardship of the City’s Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies

  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 5 Directors and 850+ staff, fostering an environment of psychological safety, collective pride, and relentless excellence.
  • Serve as a change agent, sparking creativity in the organization to ensure Edmonton remains at the forefront of urban culture and nature.
  • Align the Branch’s revenues and public policy goals with City Council’s vision, ensuring every dollar invested builds a more vibrant city.
  • Act as the City’s primary bridge to key civic partners and agencies, leveraging and amplifying our collective strengths as a city.
  • Drive the evolution of our city’s landmarks by sponsoring major capital and planning projects that transform facility master plans into reality.
  • Lean into technology and best practices to drive continuous improvement, ensuring our service delivery is as seamless as it is memorable.
  • Navigate the annual budgeting process to ensure resource allocation is strategic, equitable, and focused on the long-term health of our city’s assets.
