About The Position

The Branch Intern develops an understanding of the assigned location, department, and Border States’ overall business through challenging, real-world projects related to their career path. The intern works on day-to-day departmental projects involving areas such as process improvement, project management, data support, reporting, documentation, warehousing, sales, and operations. The role also provides exposure to the company’s mission, culture, service philosophy, and business goals.

The intern supports warehouse operations, collaborates with departments across the company and region, and shadows customer service representatives, branch operations staff, and delivery drivers. The role is located in Grand Island, Nebraska. The posting is open until filled.

Requirements

• Be a current student or a new graduate (within the last year) in a two- or four-year degree program.
• Strong knowledge of business office procedures, office equipment operation, data entry/keyboarding, and communication systems is helpful.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, reading, and customer service skills.
• Ability to effectively plan and organize.
• Customer service skills that demonstrate competence, accuracy, responsiveness, and engagement.

Nice To Haves

• Strong knowledge of Windows PCs and Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Work on day-to-day departmental projects, including process improvement, project management, data support, reporting, and documentation.
• Build relationships with employee-owners and leaders through meetings, events, and one-on-one conversations.
• Focus on real-world projects within the department.
• Collaborate with departments across the company and region, including warehouse, quotations, branch operations, purchasing, inventory, and finance.
• Assist warehouse operations with receiving, shipping, stock put-away, and other operational activities.
• Shadow Customer Service Representatives and Branch Operations to learn about branch activities.
• Shadow and assist Delivery Drivers with product deliveries to and from accounts and interact with customers at job sites.
• Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor or designate.
