About The Position

John Tillman Company, a division of Bunzl, is seeking a Controller to lead their financial accounting and reporting functions based out of the Cerritos, CA, office. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all accounting practices, directing accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash accounting, and financial statement preparation. The Controller will also oversee coordination with external auditors and tax filings, monitor capital expenditures, and support strategic initiatives that enhance financial performance, profitability, and operational efficiency. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting/finance, including significant experience managing an accounting function and driving financial performance.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting and finance.
  • 5 Years Prior experience with ERP Systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable business strategies.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills; able to present financial narratives to executive leadership.
  • Detail-oriented with a mastery of planning and organization. Must possess strong leadership ability, a proactive mindset, and a signature sense of urgency.
  • Must be expert level in Microsoft Excel. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of Products.
  • 5%(+) travel as required in support of inventory and other strategic planning initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or advanced degree preferred to support strategic business analysis.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is preferred.
  • Sage X3 ERP, Power BI systems are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial reports to identify growth opportunities, cost-saving initiatives, and strategies to enhance the company’s bottom line.
  • Oversee all financial accounting activities, including A/R, A/P, billing transforming these functions into streamlined, data-driven departments that support business agility and add value.
  • Manage inventory accounting, including annual physical inventory and book-to-perpetual reconciliations. Use cost accounting and analysis to develop strategies that minimize obsolete inventory and maximize margin performance.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, and other regulatory requirements as necessary. Timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in full compliance with all BUNZL requirements. Act as the primary liaison to internal and external auditors to ensure a seamless annual audit process.
  • Establish, refine and enforce accounting procedures and internal controls at all levels to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of the organization’s financial policies.
  • Monitor capital expenditures and inter-company transactions, providing strategic recommendations on resource allocation to drive the highest ROI.
  • Lead and mentor multi-functional accounting staff, fostering a culture of proactive urgency, precision, and professional growth.
