About The Position

This is a part-time, exempt position for a Boys Basketball Junior Varsity Coach for the SY26/27 school year. The coach will report to the Athletic Director, principal, and local superintendent. The role involves assisting the head coach in developing players for the varsity team, implementing the program and recommendations established by the head coach, and ensuring proper conduct and safety for all team members. The coach will also be responsible for administrative tasks related to player information, equipment, and reporting game results. This position requires a commitment to investing time during the season and serving as a positive role model for students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing players for the varsity team with direction from the head coach.
  • Carry out the program and recommendations established by the head coach.
  • Ensure no policies or procedures are initiated that are inconsistent with the head coach's recommendations.
  • Wear proper attire during practice and games.
  • Assist the head coach in collecting physical cards, emergency medical authorization forms, and code of conduct for all players.
  • Use the offensive and defensive philosophy as provided by the head coach.
  • Carry required emergency forms for all players, scorekeepers, and managers for all practices and games.
  • Assist the head coach in the distribution and collection of all equipment.
  • Replace the head coach in emergency situations.
  • Conduct oneself on the field in a manner that does not insult players, officials, or spectators.
  • Do not argue a judgment call by the officials.
  • Know the rules.
  • Be responsible for the conduct of your players.
  • Teach by example.
  • Encourage positive fan involvement.
  • Report all games to the news media and the athletic director.
  • Be willing to attend clinics with the head coach.
  • Assist the head coach with off-season coverage, attend staff meetings, and assist with scouting and other delegated responsibilities.
  • Organize and conduct practices as needed.
  • Be loyal to the head coach and the program at all times.
  • Supervise all team members before, during, and after practice and games.
  • Assist as needed in planning schedules, transportation, officials, and setting up for home games.
  • Inform all participants of the safety precautions associated with their sport or activity and teach proper skills to reduce the chance of injury.
  • Check all equipment routinely for safety concerns.
  • Be responsible for reporting and care of all injuries.
  • Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
  • Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
  • Conduct other coaching duties as assigned by the athletic director or principal as permitted by the negotiated agreement.
