About The Position

This position is for a Boys Basketball-Varsity Head Coach for the SY26/27 school year. The coach will report to the Athletic Director, principal, and local superintendent. This is a part-time, exempt position. The role involves coordinating the total interscholastic basketball program within Cloverleaf Schools, including managing practices, games, player development, and communication with various stakeholders. The coach is expected to serve as a role model for students, instilling ethical principles and democratic values, and conduct other coaching duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • State of Ohio Teacher’s Certificate (preferred, not required)
  • Coaching and administrative abilities
  • Obtain Pupil Activity Supervision Validation and CPR Certification
  • Ability to relate to and inspire young athletes
  • Knowledge of the care of and prevention of athletic injuries
  • Organizational skills/resources to enhance the program
  • Skill in oral presentations
  • Able to get along with other coaches
  • Desire to invest time during season
  • Knowledge of training and conditioning techniques
  • Ability to diagnose player deficiencies/prescribe corrective activities
  • Demonstrate aptitude for successful completion of tasks assigned

Responsibilities

  • Attend Athletic Boosters Club meetings, Athletic Council meetings, and Rules interpretation meetings.
  • Actively participate in all conference, sectional, district, and state level meetings and obligations.
  • Establish and enforce team rules concerning attendance, practice, and training.
  • Publicize results to the athletic director, student body, and news media.
  • Supervise all team members before, during, and after practice and games.
  • Aid in planning schedules, transportation, officials, and setting up for home games.
  • Correspond with college coaches interested in players.
  • Submit awards lists and secure league, local, district, and state awards.
  • Coordinate the total interscholastic basketball program in Cloverleaf Schools.
  • Communicate basketball needs with grounds keeper/custodian.
  • Assist in scheduling non-conference games for varsity, junior varsity, and freshman teams.
  • Ensure O.H.S.A.A. tournament games take precedence, followed by conference games, and then non-conference games.
  • Assist in obtaining assistant coaching positions.
  • Make the final decision on selecting a squad.
  • Be responsible for the information in the Athletic Handbook and ensure all assistants are aware of it.
  • Distribute and collect all uniforms and equipment.
  • Inform the athletic director when difficulties arise.
  • Carry required emergency forms for all players, scorekeepers, and managers.
  • Be responsible for physical cards, emergency medical authorization forms, and code of conduct for all players.
  • Provide the athletic director with a roster of all student athletes and communicate roster updates.
  • Conduct himself/herself in a manner that does not insult players, officials, or spectators.
  • Do not argue a judgment call by the officials.
  • Know the rules and be responsible for the conduct of players.
  • Teach by example and encourage positive fan involvement.
  • Organize practices, off-season workouts, and conduct staff meetings.
  • Evaluate coaches and make recommendations for the next year.
  • Complete any entry forms or materials needed for team eligibility.
  • Outline the skills to be mastered at each grade level.
  • Serve as advisor and consultant to middle school coaches.
  • Outline specific assignments for all coaches associated with the program.
  • Delegate responsibilities to all coaches.
  • Inform participants of safety precautions and teach proper skills to reduce injury.
  • Check all equipment routinely for safety concerns.
  • Be responsible for all equipment, including proper storage and inventory.
  • Assist the athletic director in preparing the budget.
  • Be responsible for filming, keeping statistics, and submitting records.
  • Be responsible for reporting and care of all injuries.
  • Serve as a role model for students.
  • Help instill ethical principles and democratic values in students.
  • Conduct other coaching duties as assigned.
