A Bookseller is an integral member of the bookstore team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping readers find appropriate books and products. The role also supports efficient store operations by maintaining attractive displays, unpacking and shelving deliveries, tidying merchandise, and serving customers at the register in a quick and friendly manner. The role involves learning the bookstore’s operational competencies, including using store technology, merchandising, register operation, receiving and shelving deliveries, locating products, assisting the café team when needed, and following loss-prevention and de-escalation procedures. Booksellers may be asked to support other stores in the wider Cluster when able and needed. As their knowledge and skills develop, Booksellers build expertise across the store’s book and product categories, maintain sections and backstock, make recommendations, and support sales objectives and new releases. They are expected to comply with company policies and procedures. With mastery of the role’s skills, Booksellers are expected to advance to Senior Bookseller.
