About The Position

A Bookseller is an integral member of the Barnes & Noble bookselling team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping readers find suitable titles and products. The role also supports the attractive presentation and efficient operation of the store by unpacking and shelving deliveries, tidying displays, and operating registers to provide prompt, professional service. Booksellers are expected to demonstrate reliable attendance, flexibility when scheduling gaps arise, a positive and energetic approach to assigned work, consideration for colleagues, and a cheerful, helpful manner with customers. They should be willing to learn new skills and enjoy bookselling. The position involves learning the store’s operational competencies, including technology use, merchandising, register operation, receiving and shelving deliveries, locating products, supporting the café when needed, and following loss prevention and de-escalation procedures. The role includes physical activity such as prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. Booksellers may support other stores in the wider Cluster when able and needed. As their knowledge grows, they contribute to maintaining sections and backstock, making recommendations, and supporting sales objectives across books and other store product categories. Successful development in the role is expected to lead to the next career-path step, Senior Bookseller. Employees must comply with company policies and procedures. Those scheduled 30 hours or more also receive comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits, healthcare and dependent care spending accounts, disability benefits, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement. Benefits are subject to plan terms and may change.
