A Bookseller is an integral member of the bookstore team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping readers find appropriate books and products. The role also helps keep the store attractive and running efficiently by unpacking and shelving deliveries, maintaining displays, and operating registers while providing professional, friendly customer service. Booksellers are expected to demonstrate reliable attendance, flexibility in responding to store scheduling needs, a positive and dependable approach to work, consideration for colleagues, cheerful customer service, and a willingness to learn. They receive training in the operational competencies of the role, including using store technology, merchandising, register operation, receiving and shelving products, locating items, supporting the café team when needed, and following loss-prevention and de-escalation procedures. The work involves physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. Booksellers may also work at other stores when able and when needed to support the wider Cluster. As they develop, they build knowledge of books and other store categories, maintain sections and backstock, make recommendations, and support sales priorities. Booksellers who master the role are expected to advance to Senior Bookseller, with new challenges and growth opportunities. Employees must comply with company policies and procedures.
