A Bookseller is an integral member of the bookselling team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping readers find suitable books and other products. The role also supports the efficient operation and attractive presentation of the store by maintaining displays, unpacking and shelving deliveries, and serving customers at the register. Booksellers are expected to be cheerful, helpful, reliable, flexible, supportive of colleagues, willing to learn, and enthusiastic about bookselling. Booksellers learn and perform operational duties using store technology and tools; maintain book, gifting, toy, and other product displays; process sales; receive and shelve deliveries; locate products using personal and colleagues’ knowledge and available information tools; support the café team when needed; and follow loss prevention and de-escalation procedures. The work involves prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. Employees may support other stores in the wider Cluster when able and needed. As they gain experience, Booksellers build knowledge across fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, educational toys and games, specialty games, hobbies and collectibles, music and movies, and Newsstand. They use that knowledge to maintain sections and backstock, make recommendations, help customers shop, and support sales objectives and new releases. With demonstrated mastery, Booksellers are expected to advance to Senior Bookseller. Employees must comply with company policies and procedures.
