About The Position

A Bookseller is an integral member of the Barnes & Noble bookselling team, welcoming and assisting customers, connecting readers with suitable titles and products, maintaining attractive store presentation, helping the store run efficiently, processing registers, and receiving, unpacking, and shelving deliveries. Booksellers are expected to demonstrate reliability, flexibility, a positive and supportive approach, cheerful customer service, willingness to learn, and enthusiasm for bookselling. The role requires learning operational competencies, including using store technology, merchandising and maintaining product sections, operating registers, locating books and other products, supporting the café when needed, and following loss-prevention and de-escalation procedures. Booksellers build knowledge across books and other store categories, use that knowledge to assist customers and support sales initiatives, and may support other stores in the wider Cluster when able and needed. With experience and mastery of the role’s skills, Booksellers are expected to advance to Senior Bookseller. The position requires compliance with company policies and procedures. The work involves prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. Store hours include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and most holidays; booksellers may be asked to fill scheduling gaps when able. Benefits vary with scheduled hours and location. Those scheduled under 20 hours per week are eligible for Employee Discount, EAP, and Sick Pay. Those scheduled for 20–29.99 hours receive those benefits plus paid time off including paid maternity and parental leave, company-paid holidays, transit, and a 401(k) with company match. Those scheduled for 30 or more hours receive those benefits plus comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits, healthcare and dependent-care spending accounts, disability benefits, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement. Benefits are subject to plan terms and may vary by location and state regulations.
