About The Position

This is a part-time, in-person, and essential position within the Division of Facilities Management - North District. The work unit operates, maintains, and manages the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) Central Heat Plant, facilities, and campuses. This role involves performing essential operational functions, maintenance, cleanliness, preservation, and scheduled and emergency repairs (electrical and mechanical) to ensure effective operational practices and equipment longevity. The Central Heat Plant monitors the Energy Management System (EMS), the Monaco D-21 Fire Alarm system, performs dispatch duties for service calls, coordinates maintenance functions affecting the EMS, and handles administrative functions for regulatory compliance and task completion.

Requirements

  • At least four (4) years of work experience in high pressure boiler operations performing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • State of Colorado residency at the time of application and throughout employment.
  • Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid non-restricted Colorado driver’s license (Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date).
  • Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.
  • Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
  • Must be available for call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or without interruption.
  • Must be available for shift work.
  • May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours.
  • Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a valid Stationary Engineer License “A”, ASOPE or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Operation and maintenance of high-temperature hot water generators using natural gas and diesel.
  • Analysis of all process fluids entering and leaving the steam plant using accepted methods.
  • Operation and maintenance of all environmental emission control systems to ensure a safe environment.
  • Accomplishing assigned scheduled preventative equipment maintenance according to guidelines.
  • Maintaining plant cleanliness.
  • Ensuring proper operation of plant machinery including valves, pumps, fans, turbines, electric motors, coal and ash handling system components, piping distribution system components, and digital control system components.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing plant machinery to restore proper operation.
  • Monitoring, adjusting, and operating High Temperature Hot Water Generators at J Plant and related equipment.
  • Monitoring and maintaining equipment in the central utility plant for the Lookout Mountain Youth Service Center (LMYSC) campus.
  • Providing support for various equipment at different sites, including emergency generators, fuel tanks, and fuel lines.
  • Answering phones from building tenants, directing calls, and dispatching personnel.
  • Coordinating and overseeing after-hours emergencies.
  • Monitoring the Apogee facility automation system for alarms during 2nd and 3rd shifts.
  • Notifying appropriate personnel for situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Operating, testing, and maintaining diesel-powered emergency electric generators.
  • Maintaining grounds area surrounding buildings.
  • Performing water testing and chemical treatment on HTHW generators, boilers, cooling towers, and associated systems.
  • Performing snow removal.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
