Requirements

  • Valid Minnesota Class 1B Boiler Engineer License or higher
  • Demonstrated experience operating high-pressure boilers (preferably >500 HP)
  • Strong understanding of steam systems, combustion principles, and related mechanical equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret gauges, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Proficiency with computerized monitoring/logging systems

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in industrial or large commercial boiler operations
  • Familiarity with automated boiler controls and PLC systems
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain high-pressure boilers (500+ HP)
  • Adjust and control steam pressure, combustion efficiency, feedwater levels, and system temperatures
  • Respond quickly to alarms or abnormal conditions and conduct routine equipment rounds
  • Perform preventive maintenance on boilers, pumps, valves, burners, and auxiliary equipment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with controls, combustion systems, feedwater equipment, and steam distribution
  • Coordinate with maintenance technicians and contractors for repairs
  • Follow all safety policies, including PPE use and lockout/tagout procedures
  • Maintain compliance with Minnesota boiler licensing regulations and facility procedures
  • Complete required logs, inspections, and documentation
  • Conduct and record boiler water chemistry tests; adjust chemical feed systems for proper treatment, scale prevention, and corrosion control
  • Maintain detailed operational logs of steam production, fuel usage, alarms, and maintenance work
  • Document irregularities, system adjustments, and corrective actions
