About The Position

The Body Sander completes the final stages of the body manufacturing process, preparing guitar bodies for painting or shipment directly to customers. The role involves smoothing and shaping rough wooden surfaces to achieve a flawless texture, meeting part specifications, and upholding the craftsmanship of the instrument. This is an entry-level position; training is provided. The position is full-time and on-site at the company’s Puyallup, Washington location, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The manufacturing environment may be loud or dusty, is not temperature controlled, and may become hotter during the summer. The employee primarily works independently and may interact with team members as needed. The position does not supervise other positions.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to stand and occasionally walk for an 8-hour period.
Ability to bend, reach, and twist the upper and lower body.
Ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to remain focused and alert while performing repetitive tasks.
Ability to work at a quick pace while maintaining superior quality standards.
Ability to maintain hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity for an 8-hour period.
Good vision, including close vision and depth perception, for an 8-hour period.
Dependability, a strong work ethic, and willingness to work hard.

Nice To Haves

One year of relevant woodworking, fast-paced production, or manufacturing experience is preferred.
Thorough knowledge of a variety of electric sanders, other electric tools, and hand tools.

Responsibilities

Use a variety of sanding techniques, including hand, flat, and pull-strip sanding.
Cut routing channels.
Drill wire channels.
Operate a router.
Shape guitar bodies and blend their contours.
Smooth imperfections on guitar bodies using a variety of techniques.
Prepare guitar bodies to meet part specifications and be ready for painting or shipment.
