About The Position

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Body Exteriors and Closures CAE Engineer for their Research and Advanced Engineering team in Allen Park, Michigan. This is a hybrid position requiring the employee to live within a reasonable commuting distance from the worksite. The role involves leading CAE analysis for next-generation Model e products, specifically in Closures and Body Exteriors. The engineer will collaborate with D&R engineers to resolve designs using linear and non-linear CAE analysis, develop and analyze component, system, and vehicle level CAE models according to Ford's guidelines, and direct other analysts. Responsibilities also include conducting DOE studies with optimization tools to meet performance requirements while balancing conflicting attributes like cost and mass, developing CAE-based countermeasures, and proposing designs that meet cost and weight targets.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
• 4 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
• 4 years of experience utilizing pre-processing tools to create CAE models and post-processing tools to visualize results using Altair Hypermesh or ANSA.
• 4 years of experience conducting CAE analysis using Abaqus including debugging and generating results to drive robust designs.
• 4 years of experience conducting CAE analysis using Ls-Dyna including debugging and generating results to drive robust designs.
• 3 years of experience optimizing designs for mass and performance using optimization tools such as Tosca or Optistruct.
• 2 years of experience conducting CAE analysis of metallic and non-metallic structures using linear and non-linear material models based on test data.
• 2 years of experience using CAE tools conduct correlation studies between tests and analysis to verify vehicle and system level performance.
• 1 year of experience developing or utilizing Python/TCL scripts for automation of pre-processing of models and for material verification within CAE models.

Responsibilities

• Lead the CAE analysis of next generation Model e products, in one or more of the following areas: Closures and Body Exteriors.
• Work with D&R engineers to drive design resolutions using both linear and non-linear CAE analysis.
• Develop component, system and vehicle level CAE models and complete analysis following Ford CAE modeling/analysis guidelines.
• Direct other analysts to create CAE models and run analysis.
• Conduct DOE studies utilizing optimization tools to meet performance requirements within the constraints of conflicting attributes such as cost and mass.
• Develop CAE based countermeasures to meet requirements and work with program members to develop design proposals that meet cost and weight targets.
