Boating Coordinator - Southold, NY
About The Position
The Boating Coordinator assists the Aquatics Director with implementing and evaluating the kayaking, CORCLing, and standup paddleboarding program. The role includes conducting boat tests, training boating instructors, setting up the H and F dock during orientation, preparing and maintaining boating equipment, and ensuring safe conditions throughout the summer. The coordinator works with boating instructors, lifeguards, and the Aquatics Director to promote safety on and off the water, and assists the Aquatics Director with observations and feedback for boating instructors as needed. The Boating Coordinator provides leadership and guidance for ten campers and participates in general planning of the camp program. The role also involves assisting with camp program and camp-wide activities as assigned, and participating in scheduled staff meetings and training events.
Requirements
- One or more years of experience working with children.
- One or more years of experience as a boating instructor.
- Valid American Canoe Association evaluation or another qualification approved by the local Department of Health.
- Emotional maturity, good health, and vitality.
- Ability to work cooperatively with campers and other staff members.
- Must be at least 18 years old to comply with New York State Department of Health regulations.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with the position.
Nice To Haves
- One year of college and coursework in education, physical education, outdoor recreation, youth development, or a related field.
- One or more years of experience as a camp counselor.
Responsibilities
