About The Position

The Boat Captain is accountable for the safe and responsible operation of Blackberry’s watercraft, including all necessary functions of the vessel underway as well as needed maintenance. This role involves maintaining the safety of all guests and crew, performing regular maintenance and cleaning of the watercraft and gear, and engaging with guests to share knowledge about the boat, setting, and activities. The position requires adherence to all company policies and procedures, consistent attendance, and the ability to work effectively with team members, managers, and guests. Flexibility to work weekends and holidays is necessary.

Requirements

3-5 years of experience and knowledge in boating
Relevant water sport/recreation experience
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must have at least a USCG OUPV Captains License
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Must have excellent communication skills
Must be able to communicate with guests, team members, and managers effectively
Must interact extensively with guests
Basic knowledge and understanding of math
Must be able to exercise judgment and make decisions based on job knowledge and awareness of company goals
Must be able to assess current conditions to provide a safe and quality experience
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to be on feet most or all of the shift
Must be able to operate a company vehicle or golf cart safely

Responsibilities

SAFE OPERATION OF THE VESSEL following all state and USCG regulations
Maintain the safety of all guests and crew aboard
Maintain any applicable watercraft on a regular manufacturer-suggested schedule
Maintain the cleanliness of the given vessel regularly
Maintain functionality and cleanliness of all necessary gear (PFD’s, ropes, boards, etc.)
Engage with guests aboard the boat and convey technical knowledge of the boat as well as the setting and activity
