About The Position

Posterity Group LLC is seeking a Board Certified Perfusionist to staff the Malcom Randall VA Healthcare System. The Perfusionist will assist the Cardio-Thoracic service with various by-pass surgical cases and valve replacements. This role involves the preparation and operation of heart and lung machines/pumps, maintaining a sterile environment, managing blood volume, and preventing shock or air embolus. The Perfusionist will also assemble supplies and equipment for extra corporeal circulation in cases of cardiac arrest or failure, and review patient records in the electronic health record prior to surgery to understand the surgeon's plan of care. Additionally, the role includes the preparation, maintenance, and operation of VA-owned equipment such as the heart-lung machine, auto-transfusion pump, intra-aortic balloon pump, and centrifugal ventricular assist device.

Requirements

  • Be certified with at least a minimum of five (5) years of experience.
  • Be a graduate of an accredited Allied Health Education Program School of Perfusion Technology.
  • Be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • Demonstrate evidence of meeting continuing education requirements.
  • Have performed a minimum of 1000 clinical cases.
  • Experience demonstrated in open heart surgery, autotransfusion, heart lung machine, membrane oxygenation, left/right heart bypass, intra-aortic balloon pumping and centrifugal ventricular assist device.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Cardio-Thoracic service with by-pass surgical cases and valve replacement of various types.
  • Perform preparation and operation of the heart and lung machines/pumps.
  • Maintain a sterile environment for procedures.
  • Maintain blood volume in patients, preventing shock or air embolus.
  • Assemble supplies and equipment in preparation to accept patient on extra corporeal circulation in cases of premature cardiac arrest or failure.
  • View the patient record within the current electronic health record prior to surgery to review the surgeon’s plan of care.
  • Perform preparation, maintenance, and operation of VA owned equipment to include the heart lung machine, auto transfusion pump, intra-aortic balloon pump and centrifugal ventricular assist device.
