The Cancer Destination Service Line is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center which serves patients across the world. As a BMT Donor Search Coordinator, this role will coordinate the search for and cell acquisition from suitable stem cell transplant donors for patients in need of allogeneic HCT. A Brief Overview Responsible for day-to-day operation of the unrelated donor program for both pediatric and adult BMT programs, including daily communication with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and other registries by phone, fax, e-mail and ongoing communication with transplant center physicians, referring physicians, case managers and HLA lab to facilitate search process in a timely, accurate manner. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
  • Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver
  • Ability to demonstrate customer service skills in interactions with all patients, families and staff, including high volume and stressful situations
  • Ability to solve problems and identify solutions
  • Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job
  • Ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
  • Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes

Responsibilities

  • Analyze preliminary search results and gather information on potential donors to customize search and select the most suitable donors for the patient.
  • Assure Stanford Health Care BMT programs adhere to the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Transplant Center Manual of Operations Attend Fall Council Meeting and Spring Transplant Coordinator Meeting.
  • Communicate search updates to referring physicians, patients, and families.
  • Complete lab requisition to order donor Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) typing and complete data collection form for every donor's HLA typing performed at Stanford and submit to NMDP.
  • Conduct weekly multidisciplinary meeting with transplant physicians and other team members to update search progress and discuss patient status.
  • Coordinate patient blood draws and send to NMDP Repository.
  • Develop search strategies, particularly for difficult searches, with HLA lab and National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) search consultants.
  • Identify patient's actual ethnic background to target specific donor pools.
  • Obtain adequate HLA and demographic data on patients.
  • When applicable, submit letters to international registries which are not affiliated with NMDP to search their donor pool.
  • Oversee submission of NMDP billing charges to Administrative Assistant for processing.
  • Submit progress reports on transplanted patients to donor centers every three (3) months via Trans Link Application.
  • Work closely with NMDP search coordinator to facilitate donor work-up and transportation of donor marrow.
