BMS Telemetry Engineer

Aligned Data Centers
Onsite

About The Position

We are seeking a highly experienced BMS Telemetry Engineer with a focus on data center BMS technologies to join our Platform Delivery Design Team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in building management systems (BMS), cloud technologies (such as MS Azure and AWS), and various technology protocols including BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and REST API. This role requires a deep understanding of data center environments and the ability to translate customer requirements into robust BMS integrations. As a key member of the team, the candidate will participate in design reviews, develop standard BMS policies and procedures, and ensure quality assurance across all BMS integration projects. In addition, this role includes responsibility for advancing control system design capabilities across PLC-based platforms and SCADA environments. The position requires the ability to translate mechanical and electrical system requirements into structured control logic, sequence of operations, and standardized user interface designs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in BMS integration, data center technologies, and cloud technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of technology protocols including BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and REST API.
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms such as MS Azure and AWS, including experience with cloud-based data repositories and integration tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with Rockwell Automation PLC platforms (e.g., Studio 5000, CompactLogix, ControlLogix).
  • Experience with Ignition SCADA platforms (Vision and/or Perspective) or equivalent industrial SCADA systems.
  • Strong understanding of control system design, including integration between PLC, BMS, and SCADA environments.
  • Proven experience developing and applying sequence of operations and translating them into executable control logic and user interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of data center infrastructure and operational requirements.
  • Proven track record of managing complex projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the coordination of customer requirements for BMS data integration within data center facilities.
  • Develop comprehensive scopes of work based on customer needs, ensuring alignment with data center operations and objectives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on BMS integration solutions, collaborating with internal teams including Design, Sales, IT, and Operations.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure BMS integrations meet project requirements and adhere to industry best practices.
  • Generate standard BMS policies, procedures, and quality assurance measures to ensure consistency and reliability across all projects.
  • Manage the contracting process for scoped work, including vendor selection, negotiation, and contract management.
  • Oversee the implementation of BMS integrations, ensuring adherence to project timelines, quality standards, and budget constraints.
  • Maintain regular communication with all stakeholders to provide project updates, address concerns, and solicit feedback.
  • Document and maintain BMS integrations within data center environments, including system configurations, data mappings, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Manage the data lake program, overseeing the cloud-based repository of BMS metrics and internal/external integrations.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies related to data center operations, building automation, and cloud integration.
  • Provide technical leadership and design ownership for PLC-based control architectures, with a focus on Rockwell Automation platforms (Studio 5000, Connected Components Workbench, CompactLogix / ControlLogix).
  • Develop, review, and standardize control sequences (Sequence of Operations) for mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring alignment between design intent, system operation, and commissioning validation.
  • Translate sequence of operations into structured control logic frameworks, ensuring consistency, scalability, and reliability across projects.
  • Lead the design and standardization of SCADA system architectures, including integration between PLC systems, BMS platforms, and enterprise/cloud data environments.
  • Develop and maintain standards for SCADA / HMI user interface design, including system graphics and screen layouts, alarm visualization and prioritization, data visualization and trending, and consistent navigation and user experience across all sites.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Ignition SCADA platforms (Vision / Perspective), including tag structures, system configuration concepts, and front-end design strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure proper implementation of PLC logic, SCADA interfaces, and data integration strategies.
  • Establish and maintain PLC programming standards for Rockwell-based systems, including naming conventions, modular code structure, and lifecycle management practices.
  • Develop and govern SCADA design and visualization standards, ensuring a consistent operator interface and data presentation across the portfolio.
  • Define and standardize sequence of operations development practices, including documentation structure, revision control, and traceability to design requirements.
  • Ensure alignment between design standards, commissioning practices, and operational performance expectations.
