About The Position

The Blaster is responsible for the set-up, operation and maintenance of blast machines. The Blaster will operate the equipment according to the specific AMPP standards or customer specifications. The Blaster must be able to read and understand work orders. They must follow all company guidelines and safety rules when performing their duties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and comprehend work orders.
  • Dependable. Meets standards of punctuality and attendance.
  • Mechanically inclined and willingness to learn different tasks.
  • Complies with all safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability to wear a respirator.
  • The ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials for more than 50% of the workday.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds safely and able to drag blast hose over full length of the railcar.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Work in elevated heights and confined spaces.
  • Able to navigate scaffolds, floors, ladders and walking surfaces that are uneven.
  • The ability to sustain mental and visual attention to details for sustained periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to blast with an abrasive grit all surfaces that are to be coated per work order instructions.
  • Test samples of materials or products to ensure compliance with specifications, using test equipment.
  • Inspects surfaces for visible moisture, rust, scale, or other contamination such as fingerprints, commodity or detrimental material.
  • Examine materials, ingredients, or products visually or with hands, in order to ensure conformance to established standards.
  • Transfer materials, supplies, and products between work areas, using moving equipment and hand tools.
  • Maintain and repair equipment such as pumps and conveyors in order to move materials or ingredients through production processes.
  • Load materials into machinery and equipment, using hand tools.
  • Dislodge and clear jammed materials or other items from machinery and equipment, using hand tools.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and follow tooling requirements.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Repair Manager, Repair Supervisor or Team Leader.
